Excel Vtm CoolView Laser Patient Education

What is the Excel Vtm Laser?

Excel Vtm is the most advanced aesthetic technology that combines two powerful lasers (ND YAG 1064 and 532) to target and eliminate a variety of vascular (redness and unsightly veins) and benign pigmented lesions (age spots, sun spots, discoloration), along with certain skin lesions on the face and body.

What are some of the skin conditions that the Excel Vtm Laser can treat?

  • Spider veins
  • Telangiectatic veins (red matting)
  • Rosacea
  • Port wine stains
  • Cherry angiomas
  • Sun spots / age spots
  • Skin lesions and/or scars resulting from past injuries or surgeries

How does the Excel Vtm laser treat vascular skin conditions?

The Excel Vtm treats such conditions by administering high power green laser that is absorbed by the abnormal blood vessels in the skin. The laser heats the abnormal vessels causing the vein walls to collapse and seal shut. Over time the vessels will no longer be visible.

How does the Excel Vtm laser treat pigmentation of the skin?

The Excel Vtm uses wavelengths of light on areas of the skin that develop brown pigmentation. The skin pigment naturally absorbs the light, causing the cells to dry up and flake away, while leaving the surrounding skin tissue unharmed.

How does the Excel Vtm laser treat cutaneous lesions of the skin?

The Excel Vtm uses wavelengths of light on the affected skin cells to create microscopic wounds. The skin will then respond naturally to repair itself; this encourages proliferation of new cells and the damaged cells to dry up and flake away, while leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed.

How is the procedure performed?

During the laser treatment, you will be given a pair of goggles that protect your eyes from the intense laser light. Next, we will apply a cooling gel to the area being treated. The laser will be placed against the skin over the affected area.
The Excel Vtm hand piece is passed over the affected areas of the skin until abnormal vascular and/or pigmented conditions diminish. Most patients experience a stinging sensation as the pulse of energy is delivered through the hand piece. To minimize discomfort and protect the patient’s skin, the Excel Vtm uses a cooling mechanism to cool the skin as the treatment is being performed. A topical anesthetic gel can also be applied prior to treatment, however, this is not necessary. Most treatment sessions last between 15-45 minutes.

How many treatments are needed?

The number of treatments required depends on the amount of the area affected. Many times, the area of concern fades after one session, however, on average 3-6 sessions is recommended. In the end, each patient’s treatment will vary, and an estimated number of treatment sessions will be discussed after a patient’s condition is examined at the consultation.

How much does a treatment session cost?

Our prices depend on the time of the scheduled treatment sessions. We offer 15 minute, 30 minute and 45 minute sessions. See pricing table on the next page. We also offer promotions, discounts and package deals that may be applicable at the time of the consultation.

Time 15 min 30 min 45 min
Price / 1 Session $175 $325 $400
Price / 3 Sessions $480 ($160/session) $915 ($305/session) $1,080 ($360/session)
Price / 5 Sessions $750 ($150/session) $1,475 ($295/session) $1,700 ($340/session)

What are the most common side effects of the laser treatment?

  1. DISCOMFORT – Some discomfort may be experienced during treatment. Pain may include the feeling of burning, stinging and radiating pain.
  2. BRUISING/SWELLING/REDNESS/INFECTION – With some treatments bruising of the treated area may occur.
Additionally, there may be some short term swelling and redness (erythema) of the skin at the treated area. A (hive-like or cat-scratch) reaction may occur with smaller vessels. Finally, skin infection may occur anytime a skin procedure is performed. To minimize the chances of this, it is IMPORTANT that you follow all post-treatment instructions provided by your healthcare staff.
  3. SKIN COLOR (PIGMENT) CHANGES – During the healing process, hemosiderin staining (iron leaking into tissue from blood breakdown) is a possibility. The treated area may become either lighter or darker in color than the surrounding skin. This is usually temporary, and resolves with time, but on rare occasion, it may be permanent.
  4. WOUND HEALING – In rare cases Excel Vtm may result in swelling, blistering, crusting, scabbing and/or flaking of the treated area. This may require one to three weeks to heal. Once the surface has healed, it may be pink and sensitive to the sun for an additional two to four weeks or longer in some patients.
  5. SCARRING – Scarring is a rare occurrence, but it is a possibility when the skin’s surface is disrupted. Again, to minimize the chances of this, it is IMPORTANT that you follow all post-treatment instructions carefully.
